It looks like, thanks to the generous assistance of a few other parents, the after-school situation is covered. In fact, J is at this very moment hanging out at a pal's house, eating grapes and noodles.
Still falling apart, though! The move is really kicking my ass, emotionally speaking. I don't understand it, because it's just a new apartment a few miles up the road, so it doesn't seem like the impending transition should be this stressful. I've moved many times in my life: from Kansas to D.C., D.C. to Michigan, Michigan to South Dakota, and South Dakota to Chicago. Here in Chicago, I've lived in five different apartments. I've moved plenty without crying about it, so why should this move be different?
So it was a rough weekend here at the House of Virgo, what with all the packing and the crying. (And the bladder infection didn't help matters at all. Ugh.) To cheer myself up, I went to the gym. I haven't told you about the gym! Oh it's lovely. It's always quiet and clean there. I love being able to watch whatever I want on the little TV when I'm exercising. The classes are also very good, and in the locker room there's a whirlpool and a massage chair. I love that gym.
I also made my very first trip to the Jewel (grocery store) on Howard Street. I was unprepared for the paradise that awaited me. In a daze, I wandered from the kosher Chinese takeout counter to the kosher bakery, past the kosher deli, the kosher fish counter, the kosher dairy cases, the kosher frozen foods section . . . well, this business of keeping kosher suddenly seemed a whole lot more feasible, let me tell you.
After that transcendent kashrut experience, I fetched J from his father's house and we came home to pack a few more boxes. J is now in charge of all box-labeling, because he does it so well:
Good luck with the move!
My most favorite moving advice? Pack a small bag with toilet paper, a cleaning product of some sort, paper towels, your toothbrush and a pair of pajamas. Those are sometimes the hardest to find! :D
