I'm happy to report that my rabbi said the dishwasher could indeed be kashered. And so it was! I like the new set-up.
Last Monday I made a mistake on pretty much everything I did. That day I cried at work (quietly and alone in my cubicle, okay, not with an audience or anything), cried all the way home from work (alone in my car but not quietly), and then also cried myself to sleep.
What a horrible day that was . . . and, what a wake-up call. Seven years of doing the exact same thing with ever-tighter deadlines have taken their toll. Double- and triple-checking my work sometimes doesn't help, because I see what I expect to see instead of what's actually there. Something has to change, and I realized I had to do something quickly.
So, I pulled out my budget, started slashing, and didn't stop until I'd cut enough to make a 20% pay cut feasible. Within a few days I had submitted my request for a reduced work schedule--four days a week, with Fridays off. My boss has approved it, so unless there's some sort of snag I'll start my new schedule in January.
I can't wait. Heck, I'm already happier just knowing that on Fridays I won't have to dash to work after the school bus leaves and then rush home at the end of the day to pick J up on time.
I don't know how this will work, exactly, but I'm excited to find out and I feel incredibly blessed and grateful to have this option.
